“Fake till you make it” Is that a good advice or a bad one?

Fake being ….. and then one day you will become confident and others will see you as …..
(fill the blanks with whatever you want. strong|confident|assertive|etc…).

I say it is bad advice.

Faking something doesn’t change you, it may change some superficial things but deep inside you know you are not stronger.
That dissonance between what’s on the outside and how you feel inside cripples you. It will transpire in your actions.
When we do not believe our selves we think no one will believe us and hence we will want to do more, and tend to go towards an extreme expression of what we want to show. It is a desperate tactic to silence that voice in our head that says “no one believes you”.

You don’t get better by faking better.
You create dissonance between your inside and your outside

You want to be better at something then understand what is blocking you and work on that.
Change your perspective. New perspectives change your mindset and that is the start of creating real change.

Don’t fake it. Become it
